EIW, “Essentials in Writing, Level 8”
EIW Level 8 will teach students to apply parts of speech and different sentence structures as well as use them as tools for effective communication. They will address common problems in writing, including sentence errors, pronouns and antecedents, subject/verb agreement, homophones, unclear subjects, paraphrasing, and summarizing. They will practice crafting compositions including paragraphs, a narrative, a business letter, essays, and a research project. Students will explore expository, descriptive, persuasive, compare, and contrast writing.

BOOK LIST - 8th grade students will have a required reading list to complete during the school year, including Holes by Louis Sachar, Animal Farm by George Orwell, The Giver by Lois Lowry, and Mary Slessor by Janet and Geoff Benge. These selections expose students to a variety of genres and themes, encouraging critical thinking and reflection. Not Consumed, “Spiritual Disciplines”
The Spiritual Disciplines Bundle by Not Consumed is a Bible-based curriculum designed to help students develop practical habits for growing in their relationship with God. Through a series of five focused studies, students explore key disciplines such as prayer, daily quiet time, Bible study, stewardship, and sharing their faith.
This course emphasizes both understanding and application, equipping students with practical tools and frameworks to live out their faith in everyday life. Through Scripture-based lessons, reflection, and discussion, students learn how to build consistent spiritual habits and use their time and talents for God’s glory.
This Art of Communication course is designed to help students build confidence in speaking while fostering creativity and critical thinking. Through mixed media projects, creative writing, and engaging presentations, students will develop their ability to communicate effectively in a supportive environment. A key focus of this course is helping students feel comfortable speaking in front of their peers, equipping them with the skills to express their ideas clearly and respectfully.
Above all, this Art of Communication course prepares students to share their faith with confidence, understanding that we are called to make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20) and to always be ready to give a reason for our hope (1 Peter 3:15). By combining creativity, public speaking, and critical thinking, this course empowers students to boldly and effectively communicate their beliefs with clarity.
