Gilbert Lopez

History Teacher 5th - 8th Grade

Hi, my name is Gil, and I am excited to be part of the Tandem community!

I am a homeschool dad who loves helping students discover the people, events, and ideas that have shaped our world. History has always been a passion of mine because it helps us understand both the successes and mistakes of those who came before us. One of my favorite Bible verses is Ecclesiastes 1:9: "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun." This verse serves as a reminder that understanding the past helps us better understand the present and prepare for the future.

Before transitioning into education, I spent many years working in customer service and retail management, where I developed strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Those experiences continue to influence my teaching as I strive to make history engaging, relatable, and connected to everyday life.

Family is at the center of my life. My wife and I have been married for over 12 years, and together we are raising six wonderful children—three boys and three girls. We love spending time together, making memories, and growing in our faith as a family.

When I'm not teaching, you can usually find me enjoying a good comedy movie, reading books from the Star Wars universe, cheering on my favorite wrestlers, or playing video games. I look forward to getting to know the students and families at Tandem and sharing my love of history in the coming year!
